The Nest

Where the journey comes home

Between trips, we feather the nest. This is our quieter corner of the journal — cozy comforts for home, family stays we trust, and the small, well-chosen things that travel with us everywhere.

The Cozy Home

The journey begins long before the suitcase. These are the quiet comforts that make home feel like the place you return to on purpose — soft light, natural textures, and corners made for lingering.

The Cozy Home
01

A proper reading chair

Deep enough to curl into, in washed linen the colour of oat milk. Add a wool throw and a side table for the teacup.

02

Warm, low lighting

Swap overheads for small lamps at sitting height. Nothing makes a room feel like a nest faster than pools of warm light.

03

A shelf of travel books

Keep the guidebooks and dog-eared novels where you can see them — half the joy of a trip is the dreaming before it.

04

Natural textures underfoot

Jute, wool, worn wood. Bare feet on honest materials is the cheapest luxury we know.

Nest · Family

The Family Nest

Travelling with children is not about lowering your standards — it is about choosing places that understand families. Stays with space to breathe, kitchens for slow breakfasts, and hosts who smile when the little ones run in.

The Family Nest
01

Agriturismi & farm stays

Our favourite family format anywhere: animals to meet, space to roam, and dinners that welcome sticky fingers.

02

Apartment-style hotels

A kitchenette and a washing machine turn a week away from logistics into living. Look for “residence” or “aparthotel”.

03

Courtyard hotels

A shaded interior courtyard is a gift — children play within sight while you finish your coffee. Mediterranean properties do this best.

04

Connecting rooms, done well

When a hotel truly designs for families — two rooms, one door, blackout blinds in both — we take note and tell you.

Travel Finds

Pack less, choose well. A small collection of road-tested companions — things that have crossed borders with us, survived toddlers, and earned their place in the bag every single time.

Travel Finds
01

The linen layer

One oversized linen shirt or scarf: beach cover-up, picnic blanket, impromptu curtain on a bright train. Never not useful.

02

A leather travel journal

Ten minutes each evening — what we ate, what the kids said, what the light did. The souvenir that appreciates.

03

A film or instant camera

Thirty-six frames make you look longer. The prints taped into the journal are the family archive.

04

The packable straw hat

Rollable, crushable, forgiving. Shade is a travel essential; looking like you belong in Provence is a bonus.

A note on honesty

“Some links in the Nest may be affiliate links. We only ever recommend what has earned its place in our own home or suitcase — and a small commission never changes that.”
